Who doesn’t love pizza? Here are 3 reasons why pizza can be good for you:
- Pizza helps your body absorb lycopene.
Eating lycopene-packed foods like tomatoes along with foods that also have small amounts of fat will make your body absorb this antioxidant much better. - Pizza is packed with protein.
An average slice of pizza contains about 15 grams of protein. - Pizza helps you eat more veggies.
Load up your slice with as many vegetables as you like. Broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach, everything tastes good on a pizza.
To control the fat and sodium, skip delivery and make your own. For an easy appetizer or snack, try my Veggie French Bread Pizza.
Veggie French Bread Pizza
- 1 loaf French bread
- 1 cup marinara sauce (read the ingredients and find a brand with natural ingredients and no sugar)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups vegetables (chopped (try bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, onions, & broccoli))
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- Slice French bread in half lengthwise so you have two long halves. Place the bread on a baking sheet, cut side up
- Spread ½ cup of marinara sauce on each half of the French bread
- Sprinkle ½ cup of mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce on each half
- Spread 1 cup of the chopped vegetables on each half
- Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top of the vegetables
- Place the pizzas in the oven and bake 10-12 minutes. The pizzas are done when the vegetables are soft and the cheese is just starting to brown.
- Remove the pizzas and allow them to cool for 3-5 minutes.
- Slice each pizza widthwise into 8 strips.
- Serve and enjoy!
